MAC631BE: 631 BE Outdoor Fixed Blade
Mac Coltellerie
We have long searched for a value-priced line of folding knives and specialty tools that were still made in Europe. We are very pleased to introduce this line from Maniago, Italy that has the pricing of something you would find from Asia, but the style and flair of the old world!
The Mac Coltellerie Outdoor 631 full-size knife is a great tool. The blade is a full 6.5″ with a real saw back on 3″ of the blade top. The rest of the top of the blade to the tip is a false edge that could be sharpened. There is an inch and a quarter of serrations on the blade’s cutting surface as well. This is a wide blade, about 1.5″, and it is designed to do a lot of work. If you are in the water, around the water, or at a camp, this could really be handy. This knife blade will cut netting, rope, seaweed vegetables, meat, or whatever you need and will cut it fast. The handle is well shaped for a comfortable carry with a nice texture reminiscent of the Gerber Gator pattern. It’s slightly soft and malleable for a good wet grip. There is a good thumb ramp on top of the handle as well.
The sheath is a Kydex-like Poly material that fits the knife pretty well. A cloth strap with a snap keeps the knife in place. There is some cutting of the sheath by the sawback upon withdrawing the knife, but this is inevitable. A large Nylon belt loop allows for easy carry. The sheath also has drain holes for wet environments.
Here is the story of Mac Coltellerie:
The craftsmanship that had developed in Maniago in ancient times has grown and developed into what it is today.
It was in these surroundings during the 1920s the business began, when Di Bon Giovanni, at that time 14 years old, started manufacture knives.
In 1936, Giovanni, along with other partners, created a small factory that worked for other knife manufacturers.
In 1958, his son Roberto also entered in partnership.
In 1964, the present Mac Coltellerie was founded and production was focused on the classic, little knives for souvenirs.
With the help of Roberto’s experience in sports, Mac made its first pass in creating other types of knives. Around 1978, the first hunting and diving knives were produced. At this point, the company started a process of expanding the production of diving knives and starting to produce nautical, fishing, and rescue knives. With the growth in production, a bigger factory was needed and in 1984, Mac moved to the factory to where it is today.
In 2003, Roberto’s son Matteo joined to take part in his business, bringing major computerization to the business.
Thanks to a vast machinery yard and specific up-to-date equipment, Mac Coltellerie develops the whole production process in its factory.
